Tinker

Please meet Tinker-->

Tinker somehow hurt herself in her original home which they think was the stairs. Her owner broke her hip 2 days before Tinkers accident. She was taken to the local veterinarian. During her stay at the vet the family decided they no longer could care for Tinker anymore. A friend of the family decided she would take Tinker on.  Unfortunately this plan did not work out and I was asked to take her in.

Tinker since being here has done great. She was said to be child aggressive due to her past which she has started to overcome being here. She had shown some aggression toward another corgi which I think was due to pain. Now being on pain killers we have seen so signs of aggression and just love from her.

Tinker has such a great spirit about her and really is a loving gal. I believe tinker will walk again and will be the perfect pet for someone once we get her on the right path to recovery.

7-30-09--> Tinker arrives.  Tinker was brought in and allowed to relax and get comfortable. Within 2 hours I had my son take her a treat and just give it to her with out him looking at, talking, or touching her.  Couple hours later another treat with sound. Before bed tinker is taken to potty outside with help and does well. She is given her treat by my son again with her pain medication in it this time with a touch on her head and him telling her what a good girl she is.

SUCCESS IN DAY 1 -- no aggression shown toward human or animal!!!

7-31-09 ---> Tinker taken out in the morning to potty  no accidents what so ever. She potties with assistance and is brought back in for breakfast and her medication.
The phone calls begin... I start with a rescue in college station TX who I find out later they woman I spoke with is with Central TX Dachshund Rescue. She informs me of a AWESOME back specialist in Austin TX. We discuss Tinkers case and she has hope for Tinker as well.
Calls made to the Orthopedist in Austin she unfortunately does not have room for us when I visit on the 10th. We have hope though. I am given a quote for the vet appointment to be approx $120. What a relief we can do this.
Local ortho who had seen Tinker but had not made any plan or prognosis has his assistance call me. We make an appointment so we can better understand the course of treatment he had prescribed as well as make sure we are managing Tinkers pain Well.
Corgi Aid refuses to help Tinker as they feel I am not a suitable care taker for Tinker. Yet I asked all over TX and the nation for someone else to step in and no one will. I prepare myself to be HER HELP. Frustrated with corgi aid but decide to reach out to all who know this rescue and ask for help to SAVE MY TINKER!!!
Tinker taken out to potty again and doing so very well.
Diner comes and Tinker is ready she has been such a good girl all day and I have Great hopes for her at this point.
Donors begin to contact us and let me know they are here to support Tinker and donations begin.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!! I WILL SAVE TINKER

08-01-09  Tinker is doing well gave her less pain meds today and saw a huge change so that helped me know we were on the right track pain med wise with this little gal!! She still needs them. Thinking we may try a little water therapy tomorrow but will see how she is feeling and go from there. Such a sweet girl!
Thank you all for you help and kind words and support we can use them as I know we will have good days and bad but Tinker will prevail!

8-10-09  Sorry for the long time between updates but Tinker is doing GREAT!! She is showing better control of her spine. I know she will recover. She was suppose to have a vet appt today but it was canceled. Hopefully rescheduled soon. We have an appt with the holistic vet on Thursday to see if acupuncture may be an option as I do not believe we are a candidate for surgery now because of the way she is recovering. I think she will be able to walk soon but want to get her on the right track and page with all the veterinary help here as the Orthopedist here does not feel we need to see a specialist!
She has also shown she really wants to be good with the kids. She is a typical corgi and will try to boss the other dogs around but did well today when told enough and she quit. She is trying so hard to follow directions and make everyone happy!!

8-13-09  Tinker saw the vet today and thinks her prognosis is GOOD!! Now all he wants to do is wait 2 weeks to see if more of the swelling goes down in her spine so we can better see where we need to go with her treatment. He gave her anti- inflammatory injections all the way down her spine that are long acting so we can get a better judgement on how serious the damage is. She did not show too much pain on the VOM exam which put pressure on certain points which was good to know. We are hoping with 2 more weeks of crate rest she will have less welling and better control of her back since the swelling is causing all the problems she is having with walking as the swelling is blocking her receptors to her brain to help control her muscles. We will see if she needs more injections in 2 weeks and to see if she may be an acupuncture candidate.

Our Tinker will hopefully make a full recovery unfortunately acupuncture will not be covered by Corgi Aid even though she has not been a candidate for Corgi Aid either. If she is a acupuncture candidate she will need major funding as the last boy who we did this with and made a full recovery cost almost $2000 in acupuncture bills. He is however a happy and healthy boy!!

8-29-09 Tinker saw the vet again and is doing better. He thinks she is doing better and if she keeps getting the DEPO in her back and B12 that we may get all the swelling down along with her on crate rest she will be close to healing enough so we will know how her walking will go. She is walking on all four feet and not dragging any part of her  on good ground but still is wobbly. They call is a drunken sailor walk because the swelling is still in her spine so she is not able to control her spine and moves about like she is drunken-- wobbling and stumbling. She is improving but we are seeing the vet every 2 weeks which is VERY EXPENSIVE.  We are seeing great improvement.

9-10-09 Tinker has gotten sick but is recovering well. Nothing spine related but does set her back.

10-13-09 Tinker is ready for adoption. She has pulled thru her illmess and is soing marvelous. She is running now and taking long walks with me. The swelling in her spine has gone down as she is much less wobbly and doing so well. She is getting better everyday and now just needs a home to keep up with regular exercise and attention. She is an easy kepper and I am sure you will over her.
